A Narrative of the historical significance of The Whatcom County Poor Farm, Also known as The Northwest Annex Building. Click Here for PDF.
Whatcom County will raze the historic Northwest Annex building if we don’t speak up.
Bellingham pioneers first farmed and built on this site in 1900 and again in 1909. The 1929 historic building now standing has had an incredible history of service as a county hospital, community prison, civil defense depot, and shelter for the destitute.
Whatcom County officials now plan to demolish this treasure.
We’re working to save and restore it to become a home for military veterans as we saved other historic properties for the benefit of our community, including the stately and historic San Juan County Courthouse building which recently celebrated 115 years of government service.
No matter your background, no matter your resources, you can help: Please contact us today to learn more about our work to save the Northwest Annex for public use.
If you have memories, historical information or experience with The Northwest Annex, we would love to hear from you. Please share by filling in form below. Thank you!
